Hypothesis

Petronas has over 300 oil rigs and a massive library of engineering and maintenance documentation.   Literally a library-sized building housing all of this historical information.  Finding meaningful documents and information about a given oil rig (for maintenance purposes) is nearly impossible.

Data Sources

Processed 100K documents with every type of textual data, PDFs, email, letters, contracts, engineering specifications, Pump Diagrams and Service History.

Revelations

A digital library was built after running all these documents through the Datavox Textual ETL platform.  This newly structured data can be queried, measured, managed and most importantly, accessed on a rig-by-rig basis  The insights, organization, and analysis of financial data gives Petronas the ability to use and control this data very tightly.

Business Value

Developed a centralized, online “card catalog” for Petronas to find documents, information in those documents and all associated documents.  All located throughout Petronas offices and oil rigs internationally.  Maintenance efficiency improved dramatically.  The control and cost savings for maintenance and management literally gives Petronas $100’s of millions back in cost savings and efficiency.
